It’s Kjersten Hoyord, the newest team member at Honestly ADHD. I am SO excited to be on this journey with you! Let’s start by getting to know each other. I will go first.
In the last post, you learned the story of how Erin and I met and how we were both introduced to ADHD. I am so grateful for the friendship and wisdom I have received from Erin. She is an amazing mother and gifted coach.
We are both SO passionate about helping parents and kids with ADHD because we have been there! We still are there!
Each day, I navigate life with my four kiddos (no, that is not a typo, I have four kiddos), all who have traits of ADHD that show up in a variety of ways. I know the frustration, embarrassment, confusion and desperation that can come with parenting your ADHD kiddo. I also know the joy, fascination, love and hope your ADHDer can bring to your life. Sure, I have years studying ADHD and learning how to thrive with it, but I am still very much in the trenches with you. These kids love to throw us curve balls, don’t they?
When my son was diagnosed, I started trying to navigate all the treatment options on my own. It was confusing and intimidating. We left the psychologists office with a 50 page report of testing results. And no clue what to do with it. Luckily, I found a group of parents (Erin was one of them) who had been through this and shared what had helped their child. A village of parents who gets it was such a lifeline to this drowning mama.
Because let’s be real- none of this happens in a bubble. Drowning is the perfect term to describe my feelings at the time. I was juggling the other three children (all with their own struggles), my home (a constant mess), finances (stressed), marriage (strained) and my own mental health (depressed). Overwhelmed and inadequate felt like my new identity. I can’t tell you how many times I decided I was not the woman for this job.
More very real talk – the time and money trying different therapies can really add up, especially if you have no clue if it will work or not. At one point, my husband looked at me and said, “Did we just pay for really expensive testing only to find out he needs treatment we can’t afford?”
I know how hard this is.
I am so happy to tell you – this doesn’t have to be you! Erin and I have created the Honestly ADHD Parenting Academy Membership Program to eliminate these problems for you.
You need a community. We built it for you.
- You need a better understanding of ADHD and how it affects your child. We have it for you.
- You need parenting tools that WORK for ADHD kiddos. We will teach them to you.
- You need experts to ask your specific questions. We can be that for you.
- You need a list of resources to focus your time and money. We provide that for you.
All for less than a fast food dinner for my family of 6 per month!
I have to be honest, when my youngest entered kindergarten this fall, I thought, “This will be the year I REALLY get to know the principal.”
But guess what, it turns out this training works. It has given me knowledge to share with his teachers on how he learns best (lots of movement and stimulation are NECESSARY.) I advocate for him and parent him from a very different place because of what I have learned since my ADHD journey began.
It has made a big difference for all of my kids. We still have our struggles. ADHD is never cured. The difference is my children now have a mom who is confident in her abilities.
I KNOW I am the woman for this job.
I AM what my child needs.
I CAN do this. YOU can too.
I can’t wait to see you transform into the calm, confident parent you were meant to be!
XoXo,
Kjersten
