Key Features and Benefits
The Makeblock Codey Rocky is packed with features that make learning exciting:
- Expressive Emotions: Codey Rocky can show a variety of emotions with his eyes and sound effects, providing that immediate burst of dopamine and satisfaction that your child craves.
- Coding that Grows with Your Child: Codey Rocky is a great beginner tool for teaching kids coding basics. It also supports advanced tasks to help older kids learn more complex concepts.
- Free App: Kids can control the robot using a remote, or connected to the Makeblock remote control app via Bluetooth. Your kid can also enjoy lessons with the mBlock coding platform app. The little app lessons integrated are well-paced and start with the basics so that learning isn't overwhelming.
Personal Experience
My 7-year-old son loves playing with Codey Rocky. He enjoys controlling the robot with his iPad, and the little lessons on the app make learning easy and fun.
One of his favorite features is being able to attach LEGO pieces to Codey Rocky, which lets him get creative and personalize his robot.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Engaging and interactive
- Multiple ways to control the robot
- Fun coding lessons
- Compatible with LEGOs for creative play
- Perfect for kids aged 7-12, especially those with ADHD.
- The robot’s interactive nature keeps children interested and motivated to learn
- Includes a free App with LOTS of content and lessons
Cons:
- Requires longer attention spans compared to some other robots like mTiny, which is why it's geared towards kids ages 6+. Our 7-year-old loves robots, legos, and computer challenges, so it was perfect for him, but I could see it requiring too many steps for some 6 & 7 year olds and younger.
- Parents might need to encourage a few lessons at a time for kids with ADHD to keep them interested long term.
ADHD Top Tip
For children with ADHD, it's important to keep learning sessions short and fun. We found that doing just a few Makeblock coding lessons on his app each day kept my son excited and engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
Compared to the mTiny Robot
Compared to the mTiny Educational Robot Coding Toy, Codey Rocky is better suited for slightly older kids (their website mentions 6+ or grades K-8). While mTiny is the perfect first robot toy for younger children, Codey Rocky offers more advanced and interactive play for kids who are ready for the next level of coding.
The perfect first robot toy for younger kids!
